FORT WORTH, Texas — (November 3, 2016) Mia Mends, CEO of Sodexo Benefits and Rewards Services, USA and Inspirus, has been named to the Class of 2016 for the Texas Executive Women (TEW) Women on the Move award. Mends is among only 10 who will receive the award, which recognizes exceptional Houston women who exemplify the core values of TEW through their professional and civic achievements.
The recipients will be honored on November 15 at the Bayou City Event Center in Houston during a luncheon, which serves as the primary source of funding for TEW’s scholarship fund and mentoring programs.
More than 2,500 girls have benefited from TEW’s programs, with many graduates returning to mentor others. Some $300,000 in scholarships have been awarded, and more than half of the program’s participants are first-time college graduates in their families.
“Being named one of this year’s Women on the Move award recipients is more than a personal honor for me,” said Mends. “Not only do I share the mission of Texas Executive Women, but I’m also proud to represent a company that values diversity and inclusion, supports community involvement and fosters education through our culture and workforce. That makes the award all the more meaningful.”
Inspirus, a Sodexo group company, has been named to numerous “best workplace” lists, including the 50 Best Workplaces for Giving Back. Most recently, the Fort Worth-based employee engagement company made its debut on the Great Place to Work list of 100 Best Medium Workplaces in the United States, published in partnership with Fortune.
Mends’ personal mission to elevate girls and women inspired her to co-found Seven Sisters to Sisters, a nonprofit organization that creates opportunities for high-achieving minority girls to attend the Seven Sister women’s colleges. She also mentors through the EMERGE scholars program, which prepares high school students for Ivy League schools.
